A nightingale Nightingale is small native european bird known for its beautiful songs which can be heard in woods and bushes from early March to late May, mostly at night hours. In size and appearance a nightingale is similar to a sparrow, but what a voice! Males are territorial and protect their areas by singing. A single male usually occupates the same area for years. Interstingly, these birds are extremely shy - it is very hard to actually see the singing bird as it will fly away as soon as it becomes aware of any observers. This is of course where long range microphones come handy :) The recording presented here was taken from the distance of 50 meters and the actual performer can be seen on the image to the left. The moment after the photograph was taken, maestro fled away but soon came back to fulfill the rest of the spring with joy.
